Best Bath Remodel, Award by KCH&G Magazine, “Before” and “After” Photos

“Sexy.”  That was the direction I was asked to take the design of this bath remodel (See the “BEFORE” below).  “Clean, white, bright, and some bling!” is what she asked for.  It was to have great storage and some unusual elements.  Our aim was clear.

Once again, Clay Lyon of Lyon Construction did a fantastic job with his crews at applying all of the finishes I chose.

I give you...Sexy.

The tiles I chose were so fun to design with.

Many people don’t understand what a designer does for a remodel or new construction.  For example, on this bath, I chose each tile’s style, color and size, where it was to go and how it is to be installed.  We chose the cabinets, size, color, finish.  We found the legs and had those installed.  The shower…what doors was it to have?  To the ceiling?  What faucets and shower heads?  Where in the shower?  What should we do on each wall?  What type of lighting should be enough and where should it go?  What type of tub, faucets, counter top, sink, their faucets?  Etc…

I love the wallpaper in the above shot.  It is glass beads on vinyl.  I had the wallpaper hanger split it in half length-wise and hang it horizontally for a unique look.  Under the cabinets, we has lighting installed as a “night light” for safer trips in the middle of the night.

Can you see the beading on the wallpaper and the subtle metallic flecks in the counter top?  Gorgeous, but not too much.

Designing Behind Closed Doors

And my question to you:  Why, oh why, can’t a closet function well and look great, too?

After working on a pair of closets in Boca Raton, Florida this past week, I thought I would share with you a few pics of them.  they were a fun transformation and you can read further to see some of the great “extras” included.

There is just nothing like an organized closet…but one that looks like a boutique, that is easy and fun to use is best!

"AFTER" Her closet has been designed, installed and all of her handbags, clothes, shoes and jewelry have organized, beautiful new homes.

"AFTER" His closet is now handsome with work, sport and casual wear each in their intended spots, a slick leather bench for dressing and drawers with leather pulls for orgainzation to the nines!

Some great features in this closet are the special locks.  They are Rev-A-Shelf’s brand called Rev-A-Lock.  The best thing about them (as you can see below) is there is no lock showing on the decorative front.  The locking mechanism is magnetized and internal.  You simply place the lock on the front of the cabinet in the correct spot and turn.

Poof! The same cabinet with the magnetic key now gone...fantastic!

Another great detail in this closet? The beaded hangers that are amazing.  Made for all types of garments, they hold straps in place to keep them from sliding off, are less likely to leave those annoying pucker marks on shoulders and are beautiful.  The only downside in my opinion, is they cannot hold pants, skirts or a set.  Worth it!

Just like with any room in the house…it is in the details!

Our Before and After Shots Not Included In KCHandG Mag for NARI Homes Tour With Our Featured Project

Andrea Darr of Kansas City Home & Garden magazine chose my work and the construction work of Clay Lyon of Lyon Construction to feature in her beautiful magazine announcing the NARI Homes Tour. So great to see my designs on their pages once again. The home really did turn out famously. The homeowners were absolutely spectacular (see the pic) from start to finish and couldn’t be happier. It was exactly what they wanted! They communicated their wishes to Clay and I and then let us perform the magic we do best.

The article in KCH&G, titled “Family Ties” (April 09′) shows the ‘after’ shots, but I am going to give you the insiders look at the ‘before’ shots below!

We blew out the back wall in the kitchen and added the room with the arched door out on to the new deck. Downstairs, we blew out the back wall to add the indoor pool. Clay and I had such fun designing the fireplace, pizza oven and placing the Green Egg.
