There is nothing more fun to me than New York City. The lights, the people, the design. It is so exciting!
These clients of ours wanted a fun and funky space. Greens, blues and black…almost a mod look. They needed a place other than the master bedroom for guest to sleep and wanted the space to be bright and sunny. I give you, New York…mod!

While in New York last month, I had the pleasure of being in the Bernard Jacobs Theater. We saw Gods of Carnage…funny and surprising. I was especially fond of the cast we were lucky to see as it included Annie Potts from Designing Women. It was ironic to see her perform while our staff was there finishing up an apartment in New York.
The theater was as much eye-candy as the production. I loved the interior architecture and details and wanted to show you, too.

Ceiling detail of quatrefoils.

The entrance...lovely.

Details on the lower level.

Looking up (and trying not to fall) as we walked in to find our seats.

Our seats were close to the stage. Looking straight up.

To the left of the stage, wow!
One of the most enjoyable things about New York City to this Kansas City Interior Designer, is the opportunity to walk and admire all of the beauty of the buildings and store windows. I love the “break” you are given to let your mind and eyes wander to all of the details each street has to offer. As I am a willing slave to my camera, I took some shots of some of what I found inspiring. I hope you find they bring you some joy, too.

While working in NY this past week, I took a few shots of some of the beautiful window displays I had the pleasure of rushing past (well, I WAS rushing until I saw these). Beauty will stop you in your tracks!

I had a wonderful time in New York this past week working with my partners on a Manhattan apartment in the Upper East Side. I LOVE NEW YORK!
It is nothing short of fabulous!
I would love to share a few of my adventures with you while there in my next several blogs. One of several fun events was lunch with Steve Nobel. He is the co-founder of the Luxury Home Alliance and speaks all over the nation. We had a wonderful light lunch of the most elegant and delicious cheese soufflé and salad. It is always a delight to speak about interior design with someone that knows it so well, too….the direction interior design is going and all of the exciting changes we see in the future. So much to talk about!

Myself and Steve Nobel at the fabulous Swifty's in NYC.
We dined at the fantastic Swifty’s designed by the famous Mario Buatta and Anne Eisenhower in NYC. It is a wonderful little “secret” you must try…with such an interesting history!

I cannot believe another High Point Furniture and Accessory Market has come and gone.
This enormous, biannual international market is brimming with the latest and greatest from designers and companies around the world. It is what a runway show is for fashion, only it is for home fashion…and we do all the walking.
The latest furnishings, casegoods, fabrics, accessories, lighting, artwork, rugs, details and ideas, etc. are there on display to sell to the trade. It is eye candy like you have never seen and takes up building after building from their ground to top floors, for blocks and blocks.
I just adore going.
Here are a few things I thought you might enjoy seeing. While this is a tiny, tiny amount, it is fun to see what will slowly trickle down to the shelter magazines such as Traditional Home, Elle Decor and Architectural Digest, in the next year or so. I just snap quick shots with my little camera each time so you can imagine how amazing they are in person…
Enjoy!

Buying at the High Point Furniture and Accessory Market in North Carolina is great fun. Tiring and exhausting, but fun! I would love to know how many SKU’s I see a day there…it would have to be in the gazillions. I know many “newbies” to the market never return as it is an explosion of eye candy that not many minds can wrap around and retain – let alone mentally design with.

The article
KC Home Design published in this month’s issue tells all, titled, “Saturday,” but there just wasn’t room enough for everything! So here are more pics that I would like to share with you from the buying trip, too. I could talk about it all day….
This gives you a tiny taste of the ridiculous amounts of product I sift through to cherry pick for my wonderful and fab clients. Then…make it work for their lifestyle, architecture, budget and personal taste.

- Just a thing or two to sort through…

Couldn't resist a sit!

Stopping to refigure and record.

My partner and I having a good time in a contemporary showroom.

This chandelier makes me melt (thus the chair back for support).

She is such a sweet and talented woman!

Such a great feel. Would love to design a whole house around them...

The "latest and greatest" color for 2009!

These were pretty in the sun...

Looking from IHFC toward Showplace building. Fascinating architecture, don't you think?
Thank you so much

Sometimes, a designer needs to let their office attire be a swim suit and no shoes. This week is, “casual Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday” close to home in Fort Meyers and Sanibel Island, Florida.
I think it is important once in a while to take a moment to step back and examine my life and my life’s work. How lucky I am to have my wonderful friends, family and a rewarding job making others happy. However, in order to get a few moments to myself with two little ones at home, I need a beach or wait until they are sleeping to enjoy my favorite room in my home. I hope you have your healthy and beautiful escapes, too, be it a favorite beach to the next room over.

I wanted to show you the cute and fun art we found. Does it make you smile? The colors are superb. The power of color is just amazing. How it changes my mood just to look at these snapshots. Are you feeling better, too? I am in love with Leoma Lovegrove’s Gallery.

Aren’t these fantastic shoes I found? They make mermaids wish they had feet.

Design tip from my travels: when visiting the beach, I bring home a little sand or a few shells (even check the bottom of your beach bag). I layer them in a beautiful vase after returning from each holiday. The layers remind me of my fun in the sun, love of life and the new perspective I gained on each journey. This sunset is for you!
