I had such fun just going to see fellow interior design blogger Patricia Shackelford (aka the fabulous Mrs. Blandings) talk the other day at a luncheon in Kansas City.
She was as nice as could be and such a doll in her crisp white shirt and beautiful Spring floral skirt…inspiration for a lovely room! She has such a great design sense (obvious by her amazing selection of slides she shared) and truly appreciates fine design. If you have ever read her blog (for heaven’s sake if you haven’t, you should!) you can see she is a keen observer of the smallest of details to overall color, balance and proportion in a space. I look forward to more wonderful blogs from her!

“After” my design solutions were installed by our teams.
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting the fantastic and well-known blogger, Mike Brown from Brainzooming.com at the Central Exchange in Kansas City. (View the video/blog) It was such fun to listen to him speak about blogging after having done it myself for a while. But what I love the most about Mike’s great work is his blog topic…creativity.
Being a creative individual myself, I know that there are days when great ideas just pour out of me and others when I struggle just to get one drop of a marginal idea out. I really appreciate Mike’s views, ideas, research and work. Without creativity and such support for creativity, the world would be stuck and there would cease to be inspiration for others to be creative (and accepted).
I look back to high school when I sometimes felt like the “weird girl.” I made most of my own clothes constantly and liked to push the limit with them. I remember making backdrops for the big stage for our shows and even making all of the costumes for an entire group of girls for us to perform in. They were all pure white fabric I used my spray gun to paint each one individually. Man, I wish I could have time like that again!
I don’t think everyone thought they were great, but I know most of the girls and the audience liked them…and I want to thank those girls, and that audience. I would like to thank all of the people in the world that see something new and different and don’t make a face. Without such supportive individuals in this world (that may not even fancy themselves as creative) no new ideas could fly. I guess it takes a flock to give an idea wings.
I dedicate this blog to Mike, all of the creative people in the world no matter what media they work in and to the audiences that make them great. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Make your world fab, trust yourself, the creativity in you and your instincts,
Jill

While at the Kansas City’s Central Exchange downtown last week (of which I am a member), I met fellow blogger of Momma Said, Jen Singer. Now granted, she blogs about being a mom (and is quite funny!) and not interior design, yet being a mother myself and designing spaces for little ones, I wanted to share the moment with you. She was funny, charming and strong with her points…my kind of gal!

Jen Singer and myself
I constantly am designing with clients’ kiddos in mind. I enhance spaces for children living their little lives while sharing the same spaces with family that loves them so. As people ask Jen to share her funny stories of kids and parenting, people ask me how to help make their homes more enjoyable and easier with kids. It can be done!

Thought this was a funny pic from Avanti...we have all thought about doing this at one point, right?
I wanted to repeat here my blog on designing for kids and pets so many of us are blessed with. The link is below. All those little feet and paws running all over our house…marking the carpets, chewing the furniture and wiping food on the wall…aren’t they precious?! So messy, silly and lovable all at the same time. I just got a call today to help replace a cushion that was the main course for a client’s dog. Life happens. Kiss all of your kids!
