Amazing PINK!
It is vibrant. It relaxes you when you first see it, then after a long time in it, it can rev you up! That is why sports teams paint it in their opponents locker rooms! It was once the color for baby boys before baby blue came along. It is flattering to all skin types and the child of red…another fabulous color!

The little girl in me (and the big girl too, for that matter) just loves sparkle and shine. Below are some fantastic lighting pieces, pendants and chandeliers that make my eyes get big and bring a smile to my face. I loved stuffed animals as a child too, of course, but nothing made me stare, gaze longer and jump up and down than glass and crystal that caught my eye. Santa, can you bring one to everyone please?

I have to say, after my visit to the High Point Furnishings and Accessory Market last week, my suspicions have been confirmed…imperfections are perfect.

Soft comfort on display

The draw of home fashion will continue to move toward reusing items in new ways. Natural fabrics (that are made using more sustainable methods) are dancing into the mix, manipulated into a tailored/organized look with a bold sense of nothingness in the color department. Rusty parts of exhausted items are next to newly spun silk. The once only traditional look of cut crystal is encompassed and surrounded by iron. The lines have been changed and redrawn.

Reuse....

It is exciting as always to see what product designers dream up. Out of necessity pops wonderfulness and I am loving it! Don’t get me wrong though, I could never move away from color and the richness of classic traditional design or the striking forms of contemporary design that leave me wanting more, but this is a fun and comfortable look. It brings peace to the mind and hope to the heart. Whether or not you like this new direction, the reason it is here though (reduce, reuse, recycle), is here to stay.

Old pots next to architectural features waiting for a new home

A well of comfortable colors.

There is nothing like spectacular design…it make you feel good. For example, how do these designs make you feel? They are from the historic Greystone Estate in Beverly Hills and was Veranda’s third show house. Such gentle fall colors here. I thought the time seemed right to share these with you.

It’s that time of year!
As a child, I remember the Parade of Homes (October 2 -17) …oh, yes. Being dragged all over the city, walking, walking, walking through homes. Up stairs, down stairs. My brother and I got suckers to coax us on. We could have used a whole bucket of them.
But today, I love seeing homes. Especially those that are spectacular. I appreciate homes with unusual architectural features (no “Me too!” features, thank you) and imagination. Luxurious features. I mean the ones that make living easier such as a smart floor plan and clever details can make it all worth it. I mean really, why build or buy new unless it really is something special? Truly special!
I hope you get a chance to take this tour and cherry pick your favorites and the genuinely more spectacular homes. Remember, while budget certainly does play a roll, I am a quality over quantity gal. There is great design in all price ranges. Let me know what you think and who the most talented builders in our great city are. Never settle.

Pick this guide up at the Home Builders Association building at 435 and Holmes or on the parade tour.

Anyone who knows me, knows I love art. I don’t know what it is, but it stirs me all up. I have painted many pieces myself and loved it so. Because of that when I study a piece, I enjoy thinking about the artist and how they felt in the middle of creating their art. Joy, frustration, doubt, happiness, grief, enjoyment?
These are pieces from a recent trip I took to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. The info on the piece, follows the piece. Let your mind go, check out their other pieces on the links and happy, joyful Friday to you!
