As many of you know, I LOVE great details in a space. They make it or break it. Leave a room standard and “done a million times” or take it to a level that makes it memorable and fabulous. One way to do that? I give you the small, interesting table.

The lovely Susan Britton, a writer for the national site The Examiner, called last month to do an article on me and my firm. We had such a great conversation and chatted for over 90 minutes. She herself is a designer and writes on some of the biggest interior designers and product designers in the country. I can’t wait to read her upcoming articles as her “to-write” list coming up is amazing…but I have been sworn to secrecy!
Thank you so much, Susan! Keep me posted!

There is nothing I love more than fabulous art. I am addicted to all kinds and love depth and meaning in them…pieces that make you think or feel. I prefer to be moved on the left and right side of my brain to think, “Why?” and then care about the answer. But don’t get me wrong, odd pieces can be great fun.
In the world of modern contemporary art, I think layering is essential. It can separate the men from the boys, if you will. Just as it took time to layer the earth to create a living masterpiece, it takes time to layer great art.
To follow are pieces created by a family of painters. I find them very beautiful. Can you guess who may have painted what?

I want to share these dynamic fabrics with you in a small series from that began last week and will wrap up this week. There is nothing more fabulous than chatting with another designer who also has such passion for design. 435 South Magazine published an article “Anything But Boring” featuring all of the wonderful things I found in the High Point Furniture and Accessory Market. I just want to let you in on a few more little happenings from the trip.
Talking to
Bob Mackie makes me a little giddy! He is such a handsome, soft-spoken and elegant man, not to mention one of the most talented designers in the world. We each shared our design stories and one of his memories of making the Carol Burnett Show. Remember
the scene with the dress made from the green drapes (which will be at
The Smithsonian Institution) on Carol? The scene was poking fun at Gone With The Wind.
“I saw it in the window and just couldn’t resist it.” Carol said, stroking her fringed collar. It cleverly had drapery rods jutting out further than shoulder pads ever did in the 80′s. For Bob, creating that costume was just another day of working hard, having a vision bigger than himself and making it a reality. Well put Bobbie, well put.
With that inspiration, I must return to designing a beautiful living space for a very special client. Another exciting day designing in Kansas City…
Thank you, 435 South, Maggie VanBuskirk and Kathy Boos!

Another mention of us in Kansas City Home Design…

I love this fixture designed by Paul de Haan. It has a wonderful shape in that it isn’t a perfect sphere. It’s inconsistent and icy ornate look is glamorous in a Star Trek-y sort of way. An example of detail…the bulb with their mirrored surface, makes all the difference.
